HPGR tungsten carbide studs — Functions & Applications
Tungsten carbide studs are critical wear‑resistant pin inserts embedded into the roller surface of High‑Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR) for mineral processing, cement and aggregate industries.
- Protect the roll steel substrate: With exceptional hardness, compressive strength and impact toughness, these studs shield the underlying steel roller body from severe abrasion, high compression and rock impact during continuous crushing operations, greatly extending roll service life compared with welded overlay surfaces.
- Build self‑protecting material bed: The protruding studs trap fine ore particles between them, forming a stable autogenous wear layer (“rock‑on‑rock” grinding). This material lining further reduces direct wear on stud surfaces and improves operational stability.
- Enable inter‑particle comminution: They create a rough working surface to maintain effective high‑pressure compression on the feed bed, promoting inter‑particle crushing of hard ores instead of direct metal‑rock friction, achieving efficient fine grinding and pre‑crushing.
